LCD Inverter

Symptoms

Symptoms of damage on each model of inverter board LCD is not necessarily equal to each other. It depends on the design ic inverter and its programs. Broadly speaking inverter board failure symptoms, among others that can be shown are:

  • Black screen no picture, but the indicator light remains green flame.

  • Black screen no picture, but no sound.

  • Flash Screen on-off 1 or 2 times in a few seconds, then die continue or die stand-by (protectionism). On certain models may be shown with a red LED blinking.

  • Raster britnes not uniform, due to there are some that are not lit CCFL

Various causes damage to the inverter board most frequently encountered.

  • Elko dry (ESR values enlarged)

  • Fuse break up (as a chip), so there is no Vcc supply voltage (12v or 24v)

  • Power FET or Transistors short

  • Tranfo high voltage damaged. High voltage coil and a half short, enlarged resistance, or drop out. This can be determined by comparing the resistance of each tranfo High temperatures stress.

  • CCFL lamp is damaged (or old), or less contact. To know this must be visually inspected by opening the backlight lamp casing.

  • There are loose soldering contacts (observed with a magnifying glass)

  • Driver IC is damaged

Sony Blinks Codes

Meaning Sony blink codes when dead Protection

  • Unit is dead, No Blinks - Problem in the standby power section.

  • Continuous blink once a second, no pausing - No reply from the jungle (data bus is busy, shorted to ground, or held high), IK video path is defective.

  • One blink - not used for the self-diagnosis

  • Two Blinks - B + over current protection (OCP), unit goes to the standby mode then displays the 2 blink fault. Could be a short in the power supply of any of the circuits.

  • Three Blinks - B + over voltage protection (OVP), unit goes to the standby mode then displays the 3 blink fault.

  • Four Blinks - No vertical deflection (V STOP), Screen goes to a single horizontal line then the video signal muted.

  •  Five Blinks
    - AKB circuit (automatic kine bias), the timer / standby indicator
Blinks for about 30 seconds then goes to the self-diagnosis function. Something is wrong with the video. Check the video out. In addition, unit could be in IK blanking, try turning up screen slightly.

  • Six Blinks - No Horizontal (H STOP), no raster, goes to the blinking self-diagnosis function immediately ..

  • Seven Blinks - High voltage shutdown. The high voltage has exceeded 33k and the unit goes immediately into safety shutdown. Check power supply regulation and horizontal circuits.

  • Eight Blinks - Problem with the audio (AUDIO), unit goes to standby and Blinks the self-diagnosis code. Check  the audio amp,

  • Nine Blinks - Replace D 6116 and D 6301 on the "G" board, do not resolder as this will fix the problem temporary. Or Panel Module Error or Thermal Error. If
it is intermittent 9 Blinks, meaning sometimes the TV comes on and
other times you get flashing, then change the switching regulator on the
"G" board or check connections. Make sure the regulator is -12 or -13 (negitive).

  • Ten Blinks - Check Q8014 and Q8013 for shorts, leakage, or bad solder connections on the "D" board. If the transistors are bad, check R8051 and IC8005, also on the "D" board.

Intermittent problems? This is a great feature. You
can also bring up these fault codes on-screen to see a list of the
problem numbers with the abbreviation of the problem and the number of
times this problem has occurred. This is slightly different than entering the service mode. To see the diagnostic screen, press the following buttons: Display, Channel, 5, volume Minus, (not plus) then Power. This brings up a screen with a list of the problems and number of times they have Occurred. Each of the problems named, are abbreviated as, "OCP", "OVP", "V STOP", ETC. We
have repeated them in parentheses in the text for the "Blinks"
described above so you can correlate between the diagnostic screen and
the blink codes.

Now that you know about these self-diagnostics, how do you use them? Say that you have a set with a black screen. You see that the LED is blinking four times. This would tell you that you have no vertical sweep, the which is why the video is muted. If it was blinking 6 times, you would know that you have a horizontal fault. It's not a sure cure ..

IMPORTANT: After you repair the unit, you MUST clear the values on this diagnostic screen. These
codes do not reset after the fault Themselves is corrected, so if you
do not clear them, you'll be seeing "old" fault codes the next time you
enter this screen.

Clearing is done by going into the service mode (display, channel, 5, volume plus, then power). Press 8 and Enter, the which returns everything to the factory preset condition.

RESET OF REPAIRED SSB [Small Signal Board]

A very important issue towards a repaired SSB from a Service repair
shop (SSB repair on component level) implies the reset of the NVM on the SSB.

A repaired SSB in Service should get the service Set type
“00PF0000000000” and Production code “00000000000000”.  Also the virgin bit is to be set. To set all
this, you can use the ComPair tool or use the “NVM editor” and “Dealer options”
items in SAM (do not forget to “store”)

After a repaired SSB has been mounted in the set (set repair  on board level), the type number (CTN) and
production code of the TV has to be set according to the type plate of the set.
For this, you can use the NVM editor in SAM. This action also ensures the
correct functioning of the “Net TV” feature and access to the Net TV portals.
The loading of the CTN and production code can also be done via ComPair (Model
number programming).

After a SSB repair, the original channel map can be restored, provided
that the original channel map was stored on a USB stick before repair was
commenced and that basic functionality of the TV, needed for this procedure,
was not hampered as a result of the defect. The procedure of “channel map
cloning” is clearly described in the (electronic) user manual.

In case of a display replacement, reset the “Operation hours display”
to “0”, or to the operation hours of the replacement display.

SSB identification

Whenever ordering a new SSB, it should be noted that the correct
ordering number (12nc) of a SSB is located on a sticker on the SSB. The format
is <12nc SSB><serial number>. The ordering number of a “Service”
SSB is the same as the ordering number of an initial “factory” SSB.

Instructions flowchart in case a SSB has to be exchanged.  Instruction note SSB replacement Q543.x,
Q548.x, Q549.x, and Q55x.x

Before starting:

> prepare a USB memory stick with the latest software

> download the latest Main Software (Fus) from www.p4c.philips.com

> unzip this file

> create a folder ”upgrades” in the root of a USB stick (size >
50 MB) and save the autorun.upg file in this "upgrades" folder.

Note: it is possible to rename this file, e.g."Q54x_SW_version.upg";
this in case there are more than one "autorun.upg" files on the USB
stick.

Due to a possible wrong display option code in the received Service SSB
(NVM), it’s possible that no picture is displayed. Due to this the download
application will not be shown either. This tree enables you to load the main
software step-by-step via the UART logging on the PC (this for visual
feedback).
